Common Aptitude Test (CAT Info) with MyTrustedTutor.com

CAT exam was started by Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) chiefly for selecting the students for the business management activities. It is a computer based test commonly found in India.

The exam is conducted once in every year by one of the IIMs in India. The quantitative ability, data interpretation, verbal ability and logical reasoning are the different sections of CAT exam.

Before 2009, the CAT exam was conducted as a paper based test in a single day for all the candidates. After that it was announced that the exam will be conducted as a computer based one with revised pattern and duration of exam.

At first, an American firm called Pro-metric was responsible of conducting the CAT exam by getting contract from IIM. Later in 2004 the TCS (Tata Consultancy Service) conducted the CAT exam by assigning a new contract.

The test pattern and duration of CAT exam in 2014 consist of 100 questions (50 from Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation and 50 from Verbal ability & Logical reasoning) with the time duration of 170 minutes.

In 2015, new pattern of CAT exam was introduced which consists of (Quantitative Aptitude having 34 questions, Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning with 32 questions, Verbal and Reading Comprehension part with 34 questions) with the time duration of 180 minutes.

The CAT score is classified as raw score & scaled score. The raw score is calculated for each part based on the number of questions answered right, wrongly or omitted by the candidate. The candidate will be awarded +3 marks for every correct answer and negative 1 mark for every wrong answer.

No marks will be awarded for the questions which were omitted (not answered). Then the raw scores are adjusted through a process known as equating. The equated raw scores are located on a common scale or metric to make sure that the proper interpretation of the scores, which is known as scaling process.

Each candidate will have three scaled scores, an overall scale score & two individual scaled scores for each part. The two sections calculate separate sets of knowledge & skills, and the scores will not link to each other. A high score in one part will not
